Over the past decade, we found ourselves eating increasingly less beef. Too many feedlot and slaughterhouse horror stories about animal cruelty, the abuse of antibiotics, feedlot pollution, excessive saturated fat, and the declining quality of the flavor led us to search for alternatives. Fortunately, we met the Soriano Family and were introduced to their 100 percent grass-fed beef raised entirely on pristine Tunk Valley grasslands in Eastern Washington.

Okanogan Highlands Beef was a game changer for the Hough Family. First us.Then one by one, each of our sons and families made Okanogan Highlands Beef a staple. In addition to appreciating the Soriano Family's ethical treatment of the cattle, it is the best-tasting beef our family has ever enjoyed. Everyone raves about its flavor. Our grandkids say it makes the best hamburgers you will ever taste. The prime rib is simply amazing. From the steaks and roasts to the stew meat and soup bones, it is beef the way it should be: ethically raised, 100 percent grass-fed, lean, tasty, and healthy.

It is the only beef we will eat and serve to our friends.

Sunrise in the Tunk Valley

My family and I have been Soriano grass-fed beef customers for over a decade — and have loved every bite! It is consistently delicious and of the highest quality.

Jim and Nancy epitomize the ethical production of beef while always considering the wildlife and the land that the cattle graze on. They use a rotational grazing system that ensures both the cattle, and the shrub steppe grasslands are well cared for and managed properly.

The beautiful Tunk Valley where they ranch in Okanogan County is a better place because of their advocacy for wildlife and migratory corridors, protection of scarce water resources, and direct involvement in recovering sharp-tailed grouse, an endangered species, on their ranch.

So, if you are looking for an excellent source of grass-fed, home grown, raised in an environmentally friendly way, outside of factory farming meat, I cannot recommend Soriano’s Okanogan Highlands Beef highly enough. Jim and Nancy are so easy and friendly to work with and will treat you right from start to finish.

Okanogan Highlands Beef is wonderful: reasonably priced, high quality, and flavorful. I met the owners through a friend-of-a-friend contact 10 years ago, and I have never looked back. Well, I looked back once. I ran out of ground beef and got some at the store. It was grass-finished and organic, so I figured it would be okay. Ugh. Big mistake. The grocery store beef in comparison was not only more expensive, it also tasted terrible. I think that was seven years ago. Ever since, I've been careful to keep fully stocked on Okanogan Highlands Beef. No matter the cut, it's always amazing.
